Our Events

2008 Youth Exchange

From July 10 - 31, 2008, 20 teens and two chaperones will visit our sister city. Each student lives like a local, becoming adopted by a family with a teen of a similar age. A busy schedule of events keeps the students busy, but also leaves time to get to know their host families. We'll see the highlights of the region, make new friends, and learn that the differences between people and the wide, open world are to be embraced and explored, not feared and avoided. Most of our events are presented in partnership with other civic organizations, such as the Peoria Sister City Commission, the Peoria Public Library or the Peoria German-American Society. By working hand-in-hand with these groups, we can foster friendships between Peoria and Friedrichshafen more often and more effectively.

We focus on cultural exchanges -- we help musical groups travel to and from Peoria and Friedrichshafen -- and personal exchanges. Every year a group of teenagers from one city visits teenagers from the other in our youth exchange, and several adult visits have also taken place.
